Story updated at 2:52 p.m. on March 5 to reflect the following correction: The informational event at the Islamic Center will be held Thursday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
The Islamic Center of Greater Toledo will host a “how-to” seminar to help members of the community navigate the health insurance industry under the Affordable Care Act.
The event, “Obamacare, CareNet, and You,” will be held on Thursday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m., at the Islamic Center in Perrysburg and will include a powerpoint presentation and talk by Julie Grasson, Affordable Care Act navigator and Assistant Director of CareNet.
Islamic Center Social Services Committee Chair Najwa Badawi said Toledo/Lucas County CareNet will be included in the presentation because many people thought the program would be phased out with the Affordable Care Act. The deadline to apply for health insurance through the exchange is March 31.
“CareNet is not going away,” Mrs. Badawi said. “But they’re going to find out who can retain CareNet.”
A dessert reception will follow the event, where attendees will be able to have private discussions with Ms. Grasson.
“It deals with a lot of private information, and people don’t want to talk about these things publicly,” Mrs. Badawi said.
